The “Spindle” coat rack is created for the 20th anniversary of FUJITO’s brand launch. Like the 10th anniversary of FUJITO “Shoe Stool”, it was also designed by a cerebrated designer Koichi Futatsumata who specializes in product design, architectures and interiors. Both Futatsumata and Fujito, a designer of FUJITO, have been close friends for more than decades.
The unique design consists of a steel rod extending from a generous granite base, and a round, disk-like wooden part at the end completes the unique design. When you hang a coat or other item of clothing on it, the way it slowly swings is quite endearing.

The idea of the product came up from our daily small talk about how to create a product related to clothing, then Fujito suggested “ How about using natural materials like a stone ?” That was the starting point of the process of the product.”
After that, I led and drifted my thoughts to the product, and was inspired by a rounded stone like a river stone that would be perfect for Fujito’s natural and laid-back lifestyle, and his flexible mindset, and needless to say of course for his design philosophy for clothing. My fantasy naturally led me to this SPINDLE, which swayed and swayed, while utilizing the weight, stability, roundness, and smoothness of the stone as it is.
